Standardized Tests

In this on-line activity you are expected to get familiar with the most common standardized tests, TOEFL, IELTS, and FCE.
Follow these directions for the activity:

1. Open a Word file and save it with your name.

• Click on the following link to take a mock TOEFL. This mock test takes 30 minutes. Do all the sections and then check and save your score.

• Click on the following link to take only one section of the IELTS. Choose only one of these sections (Listening, reading and writing). Please, do not choose speaking/interview section. Each section takes 30 min. approximately. Check and save your score!

• Click on the following link to take a mocked version of the FCE test. For each paper, do only one part. Check your answers as you answer the questions of the part (1 for reading and 1 for use of English). Check and save your scores, too!

2. Now, answer the following questions:

• Why are these tests considered "standardized"?
• With your copies of the CEFR overall descriptors, determine how these three tests (TOEFL, IELTS, FCE) match the descriptors. Think of the testee's proficiency level, language skills, language strategies, and contents/topics covered.
• Make a chart with your scores in each test. Then analyze if the three scores determine your language proficiency level in line with the CEFR. Explain your analysis.

3. Print the answers of the previous questions. Bring them to your teacher for the next week's class Wed Feb 29.
